Our goal is to inform the others about the negative impact various mining companies are having on the environment, specifically to the people in the valley of the river Huasco. We would like to make you more aware of the activities of mining companies such as Barrick or Veladero and the manner in which they are affecting the lifestyles of our brothers and sisters in Chile and Argentina not only from an environmental standpoint, but also from a social perspective. Our concerns extend to the future generations of these people, and what we need to do to protect these generations from the activities of these "traditional" mining companies.
We ask that you to become aware of the great danger these "traditional" mining companies are causing the environment and the people who live in these environments. We also urge you to support the activities of Pastoral Salvaguarda as we take on the tasks necessary to defend ourselves from the intrusion of these "traditional" mining companies. Lastly, we invite you to participate with us in what is occurring in the valley of the river Huasco, in the cordillera and in the world, to create "a society more humanized and less metallized" (Don Fernando Ariztia (1925-2003), Bishop of Copiapo).
