Introduction to the Study of Environmental Impacts

»The presented piece of work is an essential part of the technical support asked for by the Junta de Vigilancia for the Huasco River and Affluents in order to describe the impacts of a mining project of such great scale to the water supply of the river basins.

It was the task of the study to verify all aspects of the presented Study of Environmental Impacts as far as the Junta de Vigilancia is concerned, namely:
  • Preservation of Water Quantity
  • Preservation of Water Quality
  • Preservation of a lasting Production
  • Preservation of Quality of the River Valley
In order to realize that task it was necessary not only to verify the existing Estudio de Impacto Ambiental, but furthermore integrate other resources as well as performing an extensive study in the field.

It was the goal to produce a document which can be presented to the CONAMA of the Atacama region, in order to perform the participation of the citizens as described in the Basic Law of the Environment N° 19.300, thereby guaranteeing a maximum security to satisfy the concerns of the users of the irrigation system represented by the Junta de Vigilancia.«
